Almost a year later
At this point, it is time for me to start a new blog... I think the old 'Mama Mirm becomes a Mama' one is a bit outdated. I've officially become and embraced being a Mama at this point.
It's been a crazy and wonderful and difficult (at times) first year. Declan is growing up by leaps and bounds, and seems to be doing something new every day. He's fought a few little colds, but has generally been one of the healthiest and happiest babies around. He's been sleeping through the night since about month 4, and Joshua and I have appreciated that more than we can say.
With his first birthday coming up next week, I thought it might be a good time to start a new blog so I can share our adventures with family and friends.
Quick update on our jobs/lives/etc. We have moved from the house we lived in for the past 5 years to a new place across town. The new house is similar to the old one, but has one more bedroom, and an amazing view from the back porch up the valley.
I am still working for Liquid Trade Solutions, where things are sometimes exciting and busy, and sometimes a little slow and boring (hence the time to create a blog). In general it is a well paying job that I can do well, so I will be here as long as necessary. Joshua has recently started working at a custom crush facility called Juicebox, and is enjoying the work and working with the other employees there. We were friends with most of them before he even started, so it was an easy transition. Now we are just hoping that they can find work for him so that he can remain there after the craziness of harvest is over.
Declan is about to hit 25 pounds, and is cruising all around the furniture, pulling himself up and walking while he holds himself up. Over the past week, he's started standing on his own for 20-30 seconds at a time, and even clapping and handing stuff back and forth with us while he stands. So we know it's only a matter of time before he starts toddling around on his own. This boy is definitely going to keep us running after him. Even now when he's just crawling, he can move really fast! Sometimes he's halfway to the bathroom door before I can catch him and turn him around. He sure does love the bathroom! Not sure why that is. He started day care about two months ago now, and loves Sarah and the other kids. It's great for him to socialize, and nice that Joshua and I can both be working again.
Our adventure this past weekend was to the Stanly Lane Pumpkin Patch. It was a bit humid that day, but otherwise was a lovely afternoon. We took lots of pictures of Declan with the pumpkins. He seemed to love it, and looked the part of a great little pumpkin farmer! Now the pumpkins are back home on the front porch, although when they are going to get carved is an entirely different question.
His birthday celebration is set to take place at a local park on Halloween during the day. I'm still debating about cake vs. cupcakes, and whether Declan gets his own to destroy! I'd actually like to make a nice cake, since the last one I really made was for the wedding, which is close to 5 years ago, if you can believe it. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures if I do anything interesting!
Other than a fantastic last minute trip to Hawaii, which deserves its own post, that's about all the news to report for now. Hawaii, Birthday, and walking reports to come soon!
